Supporting the Community
During the course of the year the Lord of Life Preschool families and staff participate in opportunities to support the local and world community.
-
Food Baskets: During the 2009 Thanksgiving/Christmas season the staff contributed items for a food basket for a local family.
-
Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure: For a number of years the staff, board, and parents have joined together to field a team for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. We do this to honor our own family members and members of our preschool family-parents and staff-- who are fighting breast cancer.
-
Shoeboxes for the Troops: Begun as a project a few years ago when a staff member's son-in-law was stationed overseas, our Shoeboxes for the Troops continues to offer an opportunity for staff, preschool families, and church members to work together to honor those who serve our country in the military. In 2010 89 boxes were sent over seas to units in Iraq and Japan.
-
Breakfast With Santa: In December our board/parent planned Breakfast with Santa offers the preschool, church and local community families a time for food, fellowship and a visit with the Jolly Old Elf.
-
Village of Hope: The students in our 5 day class learned about math and charity at the same time. For the second year they collected coins that were contributed to the Lazarus Project for the Village of Hope in Haiti. Their pretzel store, with its chocolate dipped pretzels, taught them "cooking" and marketing skills while raising funds for this worthwhile charity. In 2010 $1000 was contributed to the Village of Hope by Lord of Life Preschool.
