Our Program

Playground

Lord of Life's experienced staff of 16 provides a wide variety of developmentally appropriate activities for the over 100 children entrusted to their care. In this happy busy place the children's natural curiosity is stimulated with both teacher directed as well as child initiated activities. Creative art, music/movement, literacy, and science activities represent just a few of the activity areas. The program includes both individual and group experiences that are appropriate for the child's developmental level, encompass a variety of learning styles and encourage creative exploration and play.

Lord of Life Preschool's curriculum focuses on the following areas:

  • Social skills
  • Cognitive skills
  • Physical skills
  • Communication skills
  • Spirituality
  • Self confidence
  • Independence and self control

In addition to a regular daily schedule filled with activity, special events help round out our program. These include:

  • Monthly chapel with a member of our pastoral staff
  • Special visitors to broaden the children's horizons including firefighters and other community helpers, Reptile's Alive, and other special programs
  • Occasional field trips to parks and businesses in the community
  • Lunch Bunch: An extended day program for currently enrolled students
  • A 20 minute movement class is ofered weekly to each class.

Each classroom has a lead teacher and assistant teacher. The child:staff ratios meet or exceed those required by Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS). Each teacher has training in early childhood education or related areas. All staff members are First Aid/CPR qualified. At least one staff member trained in Medication Administration is on site at all times. Professional development is continued as all staff attends workshops and courses related to early childhood.

A prime requisite for all our staff members is that they be a warm loving person who by example and personality helps the child build healthy positive attitudes toward God, self, and others.
